CHICAGO- The UIC men's gymnastics team prepares to compete twice against Air Force over the course of three days at the Cadet Field House. The Flames travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., with their first meet Friday at 8 p.m. (CT) and closing the weekend out Sunday at 2 p.m.
UIC returns to action following a two week break after producing its highest score of the season, 399.000, against Springfield and William & Mary at the Peach Tree invitational on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Alexander Dumstorf earned top scores for the Flames on the floor (14.950) and parallel bars (13.9). In addition, Trent Jarrett notched a 13.800 on rings and tied with freshman Wes Diveney for a team best score of 13.600 on vault.
CJ Patton posted a team high on the pommel horse, 13.900, while all-around competitor Keith Kohn finished with UIC's top performance on high bar scoring a 13.200.
Thus far in the season, Dumstorf owns the season best score on three of his five competitive events; floor (14.950), vault (14.050) and parallel bars (13.900). Patton possesses the top score, 14.00, on pommel horse for the Flames, meanwhile Jarrett holds the season high on rings with this season-best score 14.150.
Maintaining the lead for UIC on high bar stands Kohn with his score of 13.200, who is also the lone all-around competitor for the Flames, and owns the top all-around score of 75.550.
"We're really looking forward to facing a really tough opponent at the beautiful Air Force Academy," said head coach Charley Nelson. "The team is in a tough spot for a variety of factors…[one being] we've lost senior Scott Poort for the season after he ruptured his Achilles at our last competition- though all of this means some great opportunities for some other guys."
Last season, UIC hosted Air Force and fell short to the Falcons, 416.250-408.250. Jacob Thurber collected top scores for the Flames on floor exercise (14.550) and vault (14.650) last season against the Falcons.
"It's really been amazing to see this team come together and step up under some very trying circumstances," said Nelson.
