Men's Tennis Tops Detroit, 4-3

DETROIT- The UIC men's tennis team (9-8, 2-1 HL) took on Horizon League rival Detroit (3-15, 0-5 HL) at the Titans Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon. The Flames defeated the Titans by a score of 4-3, improving to 2-1 in Horizon League play.

In doubles play, Mitch Granger and Christopher Cole teamed up at No. 1 to defeat opponents Nathan Ponton and Patryk Koscielski by a score of 7-6 (3). In the No. 3 spot, Max Cederkall and Marcelo Dib collected the second victory, 6-3, to claim the doubles point.

The Flames went on to earn three victories in singles play. In the No. 3 position, Dib defeated Detriot's Ismail Kadyrov with match scores of 6-1, 6-3. Granger (6-0, 6-3) and Nate Campanile (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) also posted victories for UIC on Saturday at the No. 4 and 6 spots, respectively.

"Doubles proved to be very important today," said head coach Hans Neufeld. "Mitch Granger and Christopher Cole had a great comeback from match points."

UIC is back on its home courts next weekend (April 23-24) as the Flames take on Cleveland State Saturday, and Youngstown State Sunday at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.
