Men's Swimming and Diving

Flames Race Milwaukee in Dual Meet Saturday

Teams Look to Return to Win Column

The swimming and diving teams will continue their busy fall slate with a Horizon League dual meet at Milwaukee on Saturday.  The diving portion of the meet will begin at 11:00 am at the Schroeder YMCA in Brown Deer, Wisc., with the swimming events getting under way at 2:00 pm at Milwaukee's on-campus Klotsche Natatorium.

The meet will be the Flames' final dual test before the winter training break.  Though both the men's and women's squads have yet to swim at full strength due to illness, they will have a good measuring stick against a conference rival before the final push toward the Horizon League Championships begins in earnest in January.

Last Time Out
  • The men's squad came within four points of upsetting defending conference champion Oakland, who has not lost a Horizon League meet since joining the league.
  • The men won the final event of the meet, the 200 free relay, in front of a raucous crowd at UIC Natatorium, but Oakland finished second to score enough points to stay ahead in the final team score.
  • UIC's women swam well in a narrow loss to Oakland.
  • Lexie Joy won three events and Christina Neri won two.
Flames to Watch
  • Hunter Crook has wins in the 500 and 1650 free in the Flames' last two meets.
  • Danny Sivak has not finished lower than second in any of his 10 races this season.
  • Luke Hutchinson won the 200 fly and 500 free last weekend.
  • Felix LaFortune and Andrew Lewarchick each had a second and a third place diving finish against Oakland.
  • Lexie Joy is undefeated in the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 IM.
  • Hannah Olsen has been UIC's top female backstroker this season.
  • Christina Neri has won the 500 free all three times she has swam it her freshman campaign.
Scouting Milwaukee
  • The Panthers' men and women lost to IUPUI in their Horizon League opener October 26.
  • Cassidy Pilo had a first and a second place finish on the diving boards against IUPUI.
  • Jenn Kordik won the 200 IM and had three second place showings.
  • Giulia Guerra Montes has been Milwaukee's best backstroker.  Bella Passamani has led the team in the butterfly races.
  • Kareem Nofel was the 100 fly winner against the Jaguars.
  • Ahmed Ghallab is the Panthers' top sprint freestyler.  Jacob Fase has the team's top times in both breaststroke races.
