Tennis Squad Returns to Action At Marquette

Team Hunts Dual Match Win on Super Sunday

The men's tennis team will return to action Sunday in Milwaukee, as the team takes on Marquette in its second dual match of the season.  Following a three week layoff after the season opener, UIC will look to get in the win column against its long-standing rivals from the Big East.

Service Return
  • Wasilewicz and Dib had the most success in the doubles competition against Michigan State in the season opener.  They took the Spartans to the brink but fell 7-5 in their set.
  • Hedstrom and Nanni raced to a 3-0 lead at #2 but could not close out the win.
  • Wasilewicz extended the first set of his singles match.  After falling 7-5, he dropped the second set 6-3.
  • Michigan State went on to record a 7-0 win.
Winner
  • Dib and Wasilewicz were the champions in the #1 doubles flight at last fall's River Forest Invitational.  Overall, they are 4-2 in doubles play this year.
  • Hedstrom and Nanni won the #3 flight at River Forest.  They also sport an overall winning record with a 3-2 mark in 2017-18.
  • Nanni, on the strength of advancing to the #5 singles finals at River Forest, is the lone Flame with multiple singles wins.
Scouting Marquette
  • Marquette moved to 1-1 on the season with a 4-3 win over Eastern Tennessee Thursday.  They will play Valparaiso Saturday afternoon before welcoming the Flames Sunday.
  • The Golden Eagles got a lift from their underclassmen.  Freshman Luis Heredia Gomez won the #3 singles match, and sophomore Luke Smrek won on the #2 court to clinch the win over ETSU.
  • UIC and Marquette played each year since 2000 before taking a break in the series last year.  The Flames' lone win this century came in 2006.
