The Flames fell to DePaul 7-0 in the first of two city rivalry matches this weekend.  UIC came close to winning the doubles point, but the host Blue Demons turned up the intensity in the singles matches, where they dropped only three sets on their way to a sweep of all six matches.

Doubles Results

• Each team won one of the first two doubles sets in fairly easy fashion.  DePaul dispatched Marcelo Dib and Niko Wasilewicz, 6-1, on court #1, as Kailash Panchapakesan and Marco Nanni were taking care of their third-flight counterparts, 6-2.
• The doubles point came down to the #2 flight.  Johan Hedstrom and William Wale were on the wrong end of a 6-4 score.

Singles Results

• Panchapakesan was the first to finish on the #4 court.  He went down, 6-4, 6-0.
• Dib likewise was a straight-sets victim on #3, 6-4, 6-2.
• The Blue Demons clinched the team win when Hedstrom succumbed at #2, 6-2, 7-5.
• Alvaro de la Fuente, returning to the lineup for the first time in a month, led on the #6 court before running out of gas.  The final score was 1-6, 7-5, 6-0.
• Nanni had perhaps the best chance of any Flame to earn a victory.  He won the first set but eventually lost in an extended tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9.
• Wasilewicz bounced back to force a tiebreaking third set, but he too came up empty, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
