Marquette Sweeps Dual Meet From Flames

Eagles Win Two Tiebreakers in 7-0 Victory

UIC fell to Marquette, 7-0, in dual match action Saturday afternoon.  Though the Flames kept it close in almost every match up and down the lineup, they could not get the final points necessary to secure a win.  Kasper Parlko made his Flames dual debut.  His return enabled head coach Hans Neufeld to tweak his singles and doubles lineups in the first of two matches this weekend.

Doubles Results
  • Parlklo paired with Johan Hedstrom on the #2 court.  They were on the wrong end of a 6-3 decision.
  • Pelle Strandberg and Anthony Nguyen played together for the third straight match, at #3.  They were 6-1 victims to Marquette's pair.
  • Niko Wasilewicz and William Wale maintained their spot at the top of the lineup.  Their set was deadlocked at 5-all when Marquette clinched the doubles point, so it went unfinished.
Singles Results
  • Hedstrom won his first set at #2, 7-6, before dropping the second, 6-4.  His Eagle counterpart won the tiebreaker after being pushed beyond the limit, 11-9.
  • Kailash Panchapakesan had few problems winning his first set, 6-3.  After Francisco San Andres won the second set, 6-2, he continued his momentum through the tiebreaker which he also won, 10-5.
  • "The guys competed well in singles," Neufeld said.  "Johan and Kailash both had a chance to get a win in the third set tiebreakers."
  • Wasilewicz fell on the #1 court, 6-2, 6-2.
  • Parlklo was slotted at #3, where he was a 6-3, 6-1 victim.
  • Strandberg fought at #4, but came up short, 6-3, 6-0.
  • Nguyen pushed Brett Meyers on the #5 court but ultimately fell, 6-4, 6-4.
