UIC's contingent of seven singles players opened play at the ITA Midwest Regional in qualifying action Thursday.
Three Flames picked up wins in the first round of the qualifying bracket.
Kasper Parlklo and
Niko Wasilewicz won their second round matches to advance to the third round, which will be held Friday. All third-round winners will be placed in the main bracket.
Johan Hedstrom was placed in the main bracket without having to qualify. He will begin singles play on Saturday.
Singles Results
- Kasper Parlklo defeated Valparaiso's Oscar Mendoza, 6-2, 7-5. He then moved into the third round with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Fran San Andres from Marquette.
- William Wale topped Horizon League foe Jack Santilli of Cleveland State, 7-5, 6-4. In the second round, Gabriel Carvajal from Valpo eliminated him, 6-2, 6-1.
- Niko Wasilewicz was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over DePaul's Lars Minaas. In a lengthy match, he triumphed over Teddy Oosterbaan from Marquette, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, to move on to Friday's third round.
- Alvaro de la Fuente challenged Western Michigan's Rodrigo Crespo in the second set but could not close the gap, 6-1, 7-5.
- Pelle Strandberg drew Youngstown State's Laurentiu Mandocescu and fell to the Penguin, 6-2, 6-4.
- Luiz Dos Santos was a 6-3, 6-3 victim to Brandon Shanklin of Marquette.
- Anthony Nguyen took the first set before Green Bay's Satchel Benn came back to win, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
