Doubles Teams Dominate at WMU Invite

Flames Go 5-1 in Doubles Play

UIC's doubles teams had a strong showing on Day 2 of the WMU Vredevelt Invite on Saturday.  One squad claimed a share of the doubles championship, and the two teams combined to go 5-1 over the weekend.

Pelle Strandberg and Luiz Dos Santos finished off Gota and Small from Notre Dame, 6-2, to cap off a perfect 3-0 weekend.  They were one of just two undefeated doubles teams in the draw.  Johan Hedstrom and Kasper Parlklo likewise had a positive finish.  Their 6-4 win over another Fighting Irish duo, Che and Fu, gave them a 2-1 record at the invite.

Hedstrom started the singles portion of the day with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Gota.  He then needed a tiebreaker to take down Michigan State's Keene, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.  Parlklo fell to Randall from Western Michigan, 7-5, 6-4, before beating another Bronco, Faveri, 6-0, 6-1.  Dos Santos fell in a long match, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 to a Spartan.  In his second match, Illinois State's Lazarevic prevailed 6-4, 6-4.  Strandberg found success against ND's Somers, 7-6 (6), 6-3, before falling to Somers' teammate Halpin, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.

One final round of singles will be contested Sunday morning to close out the event.
