Rockets Blast Past Flames

Toledo Takes a 4-0 Decision

UIC fell to Toledo, 4-0, in a Saturday night meet at Hinsdale Racquet Club.  Since the match was called once the Rockets clinched their fourth point, the shutout belied the competitiveness of the match, especially in matches that were abandoned.

"We had our chances tonight, but didn't take advantage of numerous opportunities," head coach Hans Neufeld said.  "Kasper [Parlklo], Johan [Hedstrom], and Anthony [Nguyen] competed well."  The three Flames Neufeld identified were all in a position to be able to win their singles matches when they were called off the court.

  • Three straight-sets wins enabled Toledo to claim the team victory.  They started with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #4 over Pelle Strandberg.
  • Panchapakesan had his three match winning streak snapped with a 6-4, 6-2 setback in the #5 flight.
  • Wasilewicz competed at #1 but was unable to stop the Rockets from claiming the win, 6-4, 6-4.
  • After winning the first set, 6-3, Hedstrom was a game away from putting the Flames on the scoreboard until his counterpart at #2 pulled out a 6-5 win in the second.  The third set did not commence.
  • Parlklo bounced back from a 6-3 loss in his first set and tied things up with a 6-2 win in the second.  The third set in the #3 match was deadlocked 2-2 at the moment of suspension.
  • Nguyen likewise rebounded from a first set loss.  His #6 match stood at 3-6, 6-2, 0-1 when he was pulled off the court.
