A long day of tennis at the River Forest Collegiate Invitational saw UIC pick up two doubles wins and place one player in a singles championship match.
Pelle Strandberg and
Kasper Parlklo, and
Luiz Dos Santos and
Anthony Nguyen, were the doubles teams that tasted victory. Two rounds of doubles were contested in all three draws, closing out the competition with champions through eighth place determined.
Strandberg won his second singles match of the weekend to advance to the championship match in the #5 draw. The singles finals and placement matches will take to the clay courts Sunday morning.
Doubles Results
- Pelle Strandberg and Kasper Parlklo broke even on the day and finished in third place in the #1 draw. They fell 8-4 to Green Bay in the semifinals, and defeated Western Michigan, 8-6, in the third place match.
- Niko Wasilewicz and William Wale settled for fourth place at #2 after losing 8-3 to Northern Illinois. Earlier, they fell to WMU, 8-5.
- Luiz Dos Santos and Anthony Nguyen won their first match in an 8-5 final over Valparaiso. They lost 8-2 to Green Bay in the #3 draw's fifth place match.
Singles Results
- William Wale dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match to Valpo's Brandon Ancona, and will play for seventh place in the #1 draw tomorrow.
- Kasper Parlklo was sent to the third place match at #2 after losing a tight, 7-6 (8), 7-5 battle to Illinois State's Jorge Bartra.
- Luiz Dos Santos will search for his first Flames win in the seventh place match at #3 after his comeback fell just short. He lost, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7, to Horizon League foe Lachlan Napier of Green Bay.
- Niko Wasilewicz also matched up against a Phoenix, and had the same result. He lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to Satchel Benn in the #4 draw.
- Pelle Strandberg will play for the #5 championship following a 6-1, 6-3 win over Alex Heiden out of St. Louis.
- Anthony Nguyen was unable to force a third set and will compete in the third place match at #6. Sam Dobbs (Green Bay) completed a 6-1, 7-6 (11) win.
