Flames Host Eastern Illinois in Home Opener

UIC In Search of First Win of 2020

The Flames will play their first home match of the season Sunday afternoon, when Eastern Illinois visits XS Tennis.

After three matches in two weeks, all away from home against highly-rated opponents, Sunday's match begins a stretch of three straight home contests.  XS Tennis was the site of the battle between the teams last year.  It was also the home opener, and it was UIC's first win of the season by a 5-2 final.

The match will begin at 1 pm.

Last Time Out
  • The Flames dropped a crosstown battle at DePaul last Saturday.
  • Niko Wasilewicz was the only Flame to win a singles set against a strong Blue Demons squad.
Flames to Watch
  • Kasper Parlklo was a straight-sets winner in singles play against EIU last season.
  • Anthony Nguyen won the clinching point in a three-set victory over the Panthers.
  • Pelle Strandberg got the first win of his collegiate career in last year's matchup.  He also has UIC's only two singles wins of the 2020 season.
Scouting the Opposition
  • Eastern Illinois is 5-0 on the season, including a win over St. Louis on Sunday.
  • Daniel Hernandez and Pau Riera each have three singles wins.
  • The Panthers are undefeated at #1 doubles.  Freddie O'Brien and Mike Jansen have two wins in that flight.
