Regular Season Ends With Meet Against Milwaukee

Flames Get One Last Chance to Compete Before Conference

3/19/2021 9:33:00 AM

The Flames will return to the pool for one last dual meet before the Horizon League Championships.  UIC will host Milwaukee Saturday, in a rematch of the season's first meet.

UIC has seen steady improvement in each meet of the truncated season.  The men and women both defeated Cleveland State and swam tough against defending champion Oakland, following losses to Milwaukee in which just a fraction of the team competed.

"It will be our last meet of the season, and the last chance for nine of our seniors to compete in our home pool," Tim Loeffler said.  "We want to finish the season strong and set ourselves up for a good two weeks of training before conference."

The meet will begin at noon.  Spectators are not allowed at Flames Natatorium.

Flames to Watch
  • Cydney Liebenberg and Felix LaFortune will rejoin the team after competing at the NCAA Zone C meet, where they both qualified for finals on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
  • Lizzie Zeller and Jan Komorowski won Horizon League Swimmer of the Week honors after the last meet against Oakland.  Liebenberg and LaFortune won the Diver of the Week awards, making UIC the first school to take all four awards in the same week.
  • Lilly Culp has won the 100 and 200 fly in consecutive meets.
  • Lauren Johnson got her first win against Oakland.
  • Jeff Wiedoff has multiple 50 free wins on the season.
  • Komorowski has won every distance free event he has entered this year.  Zeller has wins in three different individual events.
Scouting the Panthers
  • Milwaukee has competed just once since facing UIC at the outset of the season.  Their men lost to Green Bay, while their women defeated the Phoenix, two weeks ago.
  • Giulia Guerra-Montes and Molly Meland each won two events against Green Bay.
  • Jared Kleczka and Danny Larson were also double winners.
  • Antoni Haupt has a top-five time in the conference in the 1000 free.
