UIC will play its final two matches of the regular season against IUPUI, in what should prove to be extremely crucial showdowns for both teams' postseason hopes.
The Flames and Jaguars enter the weekend battling for the fourth and final spot in the postseason conference tournament, neither having won a conference match to date. A sweep by either team would clinch a tournament berth. Each point will be critical, as the tiebreaker, after team head-to-head results, is total points won against the other team.
The matches are scheduled for Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts, with first serve each day at 11:30 a.m.
Flames to Watch
- Anthony Nguyen won a singles match and a doubles set against Northern Kentucky last weekend.
- Gustavo Schwebel also won a singles match, and was Nguyen's partner in their doubles win over the Norse.
- Schwebel's singles win pulled him into a tie with Pelle Strandberg for the team lead.
Scouting the Jaguars
- IUPUI lost a non-conference match to St. Louis last weekend, pushing their losing streak to six straight.
- Alex Jochim and Ethan Mardanus-Budiono are atop the team list with six and five singles wins, respectively. They have shared time at the #1 and #2 slots.
- Jochim has three #1 doubles wins with Colton Morehart. Mardanus-Budiono and Sean Bailey are 6-2 at #2 doubles.
