Gustavo Schwebel won a three-set match to give UIC a 4-3 win over IUPUI Saturday afternoon at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.  Schwebel, elevated to the #2 flight for the first time this year, rallied from a set down, and as the last match on the courts, set off a celebration amongst his teammates after closing out the win.

"We lost a hard-fought doubles point, but the team stayed relentlessly positive," Hans Neufeld said.  "It was great to see the freshmen step up and close out the match."

The Flames won their first Horizon League match of the season, and moved ahead of IUPUI in the standings.  Another win tomorrow, in the regular season finale, will clinch a spot in the conference tournament.

Doubles Results

• Artem Iermolov and Casey Schrader were first to finish, falling 6-0 at #3.
• Pelle Strandberg and Luiz Dos Santos pushed their set to an extra game, but lost 7-5 in the #1 flight.
• Schwebel and Anthony Nguyen were also in a tight battle at #2, eventually falling 7-6.

Singles Results

• Schrader went down 6-0, 6-4 at #6 to put the Flames down 2-0 in the match.
• The rally started on the #4 court, where Iermolov won 6-2, 6-3.
• Nguyen dominated the second set and won 6-4, 6-1 at #3 to even the score at 2-all.
• Dos Santos kept things rolling with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #5.
• IUPUI staved off defeat after a battle on the #1 court ended in a win over Strandberg, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
• Schwebel lost the first set but controlled the second, never allowing the Jaguars to sniff victory.  He pulled out a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win for his second straight victory, and third Horizon League singles win.
