Two Conference Matches On Tap This Weekend

4/2/2021 10:35:00 AM

UIC will look for its first Horizon League wins of the season in a two-match series at Youngstown State.

The teams last met in the 2019 Horizon League semifinals in a classic battle won 4-3 by the Flames.  Pelle Strandberg, a freshman at the time, won in doubles and singles play to help UIC advance to the league championship.

It is the first of two straight road trips for the Flames.  They will visit Northern Kentucky next weekend, before closing the season at home against IUPUI.

The matches are slated for Saturday and Sunday, with first serve at noon Central each day.

Flames to Watch
  • Gustavo Schwebel picked up a singles win against Cleveland State last weekend.
  • Artem Iermolov also won in singles play, marking his first collegiate victory.
  • Iermolov and Casey Schrader were ahead 5-4 in their doubles match when play was halted.
  • Schwebel and Anthony Nguyen have been the Flames' #1 doubles team the last three matches.  They had a three-match winning streak snapped against the Vikings.
Scouting the Penguins
