Two Meets on Tap This Weekend

Flames Will Visit UChicago, Notre Dame

1/27/2022 12:02:00 PM

UIC will compete in its final two dual meets of the regular season this weekend, with road contests at UChicago and Notre Dame.

The Flames will travel a short distance south to swim against their intracity rivals Friday evening.  The meet with the Maroons is open only to pre-registered families of Chicago team members.  A live stream will be available.

This marks the fifth time in the last six seasons that the Flames and Maroons have matched up, and the first meet in Hyde Park.  UChicago's men are undefeated, including a dual meet win over Horizon League member Milwaukee.  The Maroon men and women both finished first at the D3 Shootout in November, besting a host of Top 25 teams.

UIC will visit Notre Dame Saturday at noon Central.  That meet is open to the public.  The Fighting Irish are coming off impressive showings at the Tim Welsh Classic, where they broke two pool records.  Notre Dame's women took first place among a field that included #9 Ohio State.  Their men finished second.

Jan Komorowski will be among those who lead the Flames' men.  He won Horizon League Swimmer of the Week honors following the team's last meet.  He owns the fastest 1000 free time in the conference this season.  Luke Weisner, Josh Dellorto, and Ben Ramminger all won multiple individual events against Valparaiso two weeks ago.

On the women's side, three Flames won multiple events.  Maddie Hawker, Taira Juronis, and Bree Moericke all made repeat contributions to the team's sweep of every event against Valpo.  Though diving was not contested against the Beacons, Cydney Liebenberg is poised to return to action after picking up two Diver of the Week awards earlier this season.

Following this weekend's action, the Flames swimmers will train and taper for the Horizon League Championships, which begin February 16.  The divers will have one more chance to compete at the UIC Diving Invitational next Saturday.
