Miroslav Cvjetan's run to the main singles draw highlighted an ITA Midwest Regional in which all four Flames who participated won at least two singles matches.
Cvjetan started in the singles qualifying draw, where he got out of the first round via an easy, 6-0, 6-1 win over Eastern Illinois. The second round was a different story. He had to rally after losing a first set tiebreaker before pulling away from Northern Illinois, 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-1. He dispatched Ohio State, 4-and-2, in the third round to move into the main draw.
Gustavo Schwebel also won his first qualifying draw match. He bowed out in the second round before defeating Eastern Illinois in an epic consolation match, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (8).
Pelle Strandberg and
Jai Vallurupalli each fell in the first round, Strandberg in heartbreaking fashion in a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6) battle. Both bounced back to win two consolation matches, all in straight sets.
As the tournament moved on, Cvjetan fell to Michigan in the first round of the main singles draw. He paired with Strandberg in the main doubles draw, falling 8-2 to Western Michigan in the first round. Schwebel and Vallurupalli fell by the same score to Toledo in their first round match.
The Flames will return to action in January , when they begin their slate of dual matches.
