Athletic Department Celebrates Academic Success

Student-Athlete Achievements Honored

UIC student-athletes, and their achievements in the classroom, were celebrated at halftime of a recent men's basketball game at Credit Union 1 Arena.

Student-athletes who earned at least a 3.5 GPA in the Fall 2021 semester were invited onto the court at halftime, to be greeted by Chancellor Michael Amiridis, Athletic Director Michael Lipitz, and Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Dr. Robert Barish.

As a department, the Flames posted a 3.22 grade-point average last semester, surpassing the 3.0 standard for the 15th straight semester. A total of 189 student-athletes achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher, of which 105 earned a 3.5 or better GPA to earn Dean's List distinction. An impressive 54 student-athletes finished the fall semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

A school record 129 student-athletes were named to the Horizon League Fall 2021 Honor Roll.

The men's basketball team wore special jerseys for Academic Recognition Night, which included each player's major in place of their last name.

Vice Provost for Academic and Enrollment Services Kevin Browne, and University Registrar Rob Dixon, joined the ESPN+ broadcast at halftime for a discussion of UIC academic excellence.
