CHICAGO – UIC's
Megan Tang has been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team, the League office announced Monday (May 16). The award, as voted on by the League's faculty athletics representatives, is the first in Tang's career.
Â
To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
Â
A junior majoring in Kinesiology, Tang is the first Flame since Kayla Stueland in 2015 to earn All-Academic Team honors. The junior capped her season leading the team in scoring average with a 77.05 while matching the team lowest single-round score with a 73. The junior had three top-3 finishes on the year, finishing second at the Briar Ridge Invitational, tied for second at the Indiana State Invitational and third at the Lady Jaguar Invitational. Following the Lady Jaguar Invitational, Tang was named the Horizon League Golfer of the Week.
Â
Tang also led the team as all 21 rounds she played in stroke play counted towards the team score, the only player to count all 21 rounds towards the team tally this season. The native of Memphis, Tennessee had 17 rounds in the 70s, including all three rounds at the Horizon League Championship. At the season-ending tournament, Tang lowered her score every round, finishing tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard.
