Weekend Slate of MAC Home Matches Up Next for Men’s Tennis

The Flames host Toledo Friday afternoon and Buffalo Sunday afternoon in conference action

CHICAGO (March 21, 2024) – The UIC men's tennis program (8-6, 0-3 MAC) is back in action Friday and Sunday as the Flames host Toledo (7-8, 2-1 MAC) and Buffalo (4-8, 0-3) in Mid-American Conference competition. Both matches will start at 12 p.m. Friday's contest will take place at the XS Tennis Village while Sunday's will be played at either the XS Tennis Village or the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.
 
SCOUTING TOLEDO
  • The Rockets enter Friday's contest with a 7-8 record and a 2-1 record in conference play.
  • Junior Hanamichi Carvajal and sophomore Matias Olivero are both on three-match win streaks in singles competition. Carvajal is 8-1 in his last ten matches competing at the No. 2, 3 and 5 singles positions.
  • The Rockets have a 3-0 advantage over the Flames in the all-time series.
  • Last season, UT finished as the runner-up in the MAC Championships, falling 4-3 to Western Michigan in the conference finals.
SCOUTING BUFFALO
  • The Bulls are 4-8 in 2024 and remain winless in conference competitions.
  • Buffalo has lost four-straight matches, with its last win coming on March 2. The program is 2-4 in away competitions this season.
  • Sophomore Theodoros Mitsakos leads Buffalo with six singles wins this season, competing at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions.
  • UIC won the lone previous match between the two programs, a 5-2 victory in 2008.
  • Buffalo takes on NIU Friday afternoon before facing the Flames Sunday.
SWEET HOME CHICAGO
  • The Flames are a 5-1 in home contests in 2024 and are undefeated in home matches held at the XS Tennis Village (4-0).
  • The program has 10 home contests this season, including five in March.
  • UIC's five home victories are the most for the program since the 2009-10 season.
