Busy Weekend Ahead at Home for Swimming and Diving

The Flames are slated to face off against Eastern Illinois and Southern Indiana in back-to-back home dual meets starting Friday.

CHICAGO (Jan. 9, 2025) – The UIC swimming and diving team is set to start off the second half of their season with back-to-back dual meets at the Flames Natatorium to enter the weekend.
 
 After hosting Eastern Illinois 4 p.m. (CT) on Friday, the Flames return back to the pool the next day to host Southern Indiana Saturday morning at 11 a.m. (CT). Admission is free to the public, with live results available on the Meet Mobile app, which you can download on either on Apple and other cell phone products.
 
SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS
 
  • This will be the first time both programs are set to compete against each other since Oct. 2012. They were slated to compete last season, but due to inclement weather the dual meet was canceled.
  • The Panthers haven't seen competition since November, last competing at Southern Illinois' A3 Performance Invite Nov. 14-16. Each team finished in sixth place competing during the three-day meet.
  • The men's team has the sole team win this season for the Panthers, when they defeated Valparaiso (100-88) in a tri-meet with the Beacons and Bellarmine on Oct. 19.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHERN INDIANA
  • This will be the second time the Flames and the Screaming Eagles are set to compete. A season ago, both programs met in a quad meet hosted by Indiana State in Oct. 2023. The men's team earned the win, 200-98 and the women's team also collected the victory, 198-101.
  • Senior Cory Michalek (Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine) earned wins in the 50 (21.56) and 100 freestyles (48.55). Sophomore Molly Kroeger (Easton, Md. (Easton) finished second in the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 10:31.77. On the diving board, junior Harrison Nolan (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield/Kentucky) won both events, and junior Kerry-Leigh Morrison (Gauteng, South Africa) won the three-meter diving events (373.15 points).
  • Southern Indiana also had partaken in SIU's A3 Performance Invite in November. The women's team placed fourth in the event, and the men's team finished fifth at the three-day meet.
 
DECEMBER RECAP
  • The Flames sent six swimmers to Greensboro, N.C. to compete in the 2024 USA Swimming Open Championships on Dec. 7. Graduate student Rafe Dolan-Peterson (Austin, Minn./Austin/Green Bay) collected a seventh-place finish in the 100 freestyle (43.65 seconds) and fellow classmate Liam Davis (Naperville, Ill./Plainfield North) finished ninth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:48.25.
  • Michalek also had a strong showing at the event, finishing 12th in the 100 backstroke. (48.26) and sophomore Jack Mills (Toronto, Ontario/Lawerence Park Collegiate Institute) finished 15th in the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:36.03.
  • A week later, the diving duo of senior Cole Tremewan (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Nolan headed to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the 2024 USA Diving Championships. Nolan placed 13th on the one-meter board with a score 304.10 points. Tremewan finished in 24th place, scoring 279.70 points.
