CHICAGO – The Missouri Valley Conference announced its weekly award winners Tuesday afternoon, and freshman
Jay Stewart earned MVC Men's Freshman of the Week and senior
Harrison Nolan earned MVC Men's Diver of the Week, after their strong performances against Ball State and IU Indy.
Stewart had a stellar weekend for the Flames winning five events over the two meets. Against Ball State he earned wins in the 50 freestyle (20.20) and 100 butterfly (48.73). Stewart followed that up the following day with three event wins against IU Indy in the 50 freestyle (20.55), 100 butterfly (48.97) and 400 freestyle relay (3:04.46). His time in the 50 freestyle on Friday is the fastest time in the MVC this season and is fifth all-time in UIC history. His time in the 100 butterfly is fourth in the MVC this season.
The Freshman has been on a tear to start his collegiate career, earning his second career weekly accolade in as many attempts. Earlier this season Stewart earned MVC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 15. Stewart has won seven total events across three meets this season.
Nolan continues to be dominant on the diving board sweeping the diving events against Ball State and IU Indy over the weekend. On Friday against Ball State, he won the three-meter diving (387.00) and one-meter diving (353.35), Saturday against IU Indy he won the three-meter diving (392.10) and one-meter diving (354.30) again. Nolan's scores on both boards against IU Indy were season bests, and he has already achieved NCAA Zone C Qualification scores on both diving boards.
This is Nolan's 13th weekly recognition since joining the Flames and his second this season. He earned MVC Men's Diver of the Week on Oct. 15. Nolan has now won five individual events in six opportunities this season.
UIC has been a mainstay in the MVC weekly awards earning its fifth and sixth recognitions this season. The Flames honored this season are
