Flames Fall to Western Michigan in MAC Semifinals to Wrap Up the Season

UIC closes out the 2025 campaign with a tough battle against Western Michigan

CHICAGO — UIC men's tennis capped off one of the most successful seasons in program history on Saturday, falling 4-1 to top-seeded Western Michigan in the Mid-American Conference Championship semifinals.

The loss brought an end to a phenomenal 2025 campaign for the Flames, who finished with a 16-6 overall record and a 7-3 mark in MAC play; both among the program's best since joining the league.

Western Michigan claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. UIC's No. 2 duo of Milos Mikovic and Artem Alekseychuk were on the verge of taking their match, leading 5-4 when play was stopped.

In singles action, sophomore Emil Dapcevic delivered a gritty performance on court six, earning UIC's point with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 victory. Mikovic also pushed his match to a decisive third set at No. 3 singles before ultimately falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Several other matches were still in progress when Western Michigan secured its fourth point, including competitive battles from Eldin Nokic and Simon Knezevic.

Despite the defeat, the Flames leave the tournament with their heads held high, having put together a breakthrough year filled with memorable wins, growth across the lineup, and major steps forward as a program.

With a strong returning core and valuable postseason experience now under their belt, UIC men's tennis is set up for even greater success in the seasons to come.
