ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Conference announced its weekly award winners Wednesday afternoon, and the Flames earned three of the possible four awards. Graduate Student
Harrison Nolan was named MVC Men's Diver of the Week, while sophomore
Jay Stewart and junior
Samantha Wilson were named MVC Men and Women's Swimmers of the Week.
Nolan had a historical meet for the Flames against Southern Indiana. He swept the diving events scoring 336.60 points in the one-meter and 418.20 points in the three-meter. His score in the three-meter set a Flames Natatorium record, a UIC school record and a MVC overall record for the event. His scores on both diving boards reached the NCAA Zone Qualifying score.
This is the 16th weekly recognition in Nolan's career and first this season. He collected four weekly honors last season as well as the MVC Men's Diver of the Year award. The graduate student has achieved an NCAA Zone Qualifying score on both boards every year he has been a Flame.
Stewart also had a record breaking meet for the Flames against Southern Indiana, breaking the school and a 16 year old Flames Natatorium pool record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.64. He also earned an individual win in the 50 freestyle (20.01), winning by over a second, and two relay wins in the 200 medley relay (1:29.12) and 400 freestyle relay (3:01.37).
The weekly recognition is the fourth in Stewart's career and his third Swimmer of the Week honor.
Wilson was stellar in the opening meet of the season, helping the Flames earn wins against Northern Iowa and Southern Indiana in a tri-meet. The junior picked up wins in the 100 butterfly (56.72), 200 butterfly (2:05.19) and was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:31.16).
This is Wilson's third weekly honor in her career, and her first Swimmer of the Week award.
