Two UIC student-athletes have been selected to the CoSIDA/GTE Academic All-District V team it was announced Friday. Soccer player Greg Chrisman (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) and men's gymnast Justin Joyce (Boca Raton, Fla./Community) were named to the Fall/Winter At-Large All-District V Second Team.
Chrisman, who will be a senior on the soccer team this fall, carries a 3.67 GPA as a Finance major. In 1999, he helped the Flames earn their first-ever MCC regular-season and tournament championships while also making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Chrisman, a midfielder, finished as UIC's third-leading scorer with 17 points en route to All-MCC Second Team honors. He also earned a spot on the MCC's Academic All-Conference Team.
Joyce, a senior on the UIC men's gymnastics team, sports a 3.69 GPA as an English major. An NCAA Academic All-American in 1999, Joyce will be making his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Regionals next weekend at Iowa. Earlier this year, Joyce established new career-highs, scoring a 9.30 on the pommel horse in a meet with Air Force while tallying a 9.60 on the parallel bars against Iowa.
