Chicago, Ill. - The Midwestern Collegiate Conference announced its Winter Academic All-Conference Teams on Thursday and UIC had five student-athletes honored, led by three from the men's swimming and diving squad.
Eric Holton, a junior majoring in Exercise Physiology, Dave Kimmerly, a sophomore Criminal Justice major and Boyan Petrovic, a sophomore majoring in Biological Sciences who was recently named UIC's 1999-2000 Male Athlete of the Year, were all named to the Men's Swimming and Diving academic team.
Sophomore Julie-Anne Chico, a marketing major, was UIC's lone representative on the Women's Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team while junior Thor Solverson, a Finance major, was one of five named to the Men's Basketball Academic All-Conference squad.
The MCC Academic All-Conference teams honor student-athletes who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better (on a 4.00 scale) with at least three complete semesters at the same institution and who participate in an MCC sponsored sport as a starter or an important reserve. Selections are made by MCC Faculty Athletics Representatives. The teams are comprised of the same number of first-team all-MCC student-athletes in each sport.
