Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Illinois at Chicago has landed 38 student-athletes on the 2000-01 Horizon League Academic Honor Roll it was announced today by the league's office.
The men's cross country/track & field program and the soccer team, which repeated as the regular-season and tournament champions, led the way for the Flames as they both landed seven individuals the list. The women's tennis team, which compiled UIC's top team grade point average during the year and earned its fifth straight conference championship, placed six players on the honor roll. The baseball and volleyball squads both followed with five representatives.
To qualify for the honor roll, student-athletes must participate in a Horizon League sponsored sport and must have compiled a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA as of April 1. They must also have completed at least three semesters as a full-time student at the same member institution.
As a whole, the Horizon League honored 395 student-athletes. Butler led the league with 77 players being honored followed by UW-Milwaukee (60), Detroit (54), Wright State (50), UW-Green Bay (47) and Loyola (42). Cleveland State finished with 27 honorees.
