Chicago, Ill.- The academic excellence achieved by student-athletes at the University of Illinois at Chicago this past spring continues to receive recognition, as shown by the announcement of four UIC athletes earning 2004 Spring Academic All-Horizon League honors Tuesday afternoon.

Softball's Cameron Astiazaran and Joyce Cathey, along with Pat Zufan of the men's tennis team and Sara O'Mara of the women's track and field squad, earned Academic All-League accolades for their stellar classroom work and on-field success this past semester.

All four athletes also made the 2004 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll that was announced last month.

Including the Fall and Winter Academic All-League Teams, UIC placed a total of 15 student-athletes from 12 different sports this year.

The Spring Academic All-Horizon League Teams are selected by the Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. Nominees must meet the following criteria: a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better on a 4.0 scale; have completed at least three semesters at the same institution; and be a starter or significant contributor in a league-sponsored sport.
