Indianapolis, Ind. - The Horizon League announced its Spring Academic All-League Teams on Monday as 14 UIC student-athletes have been feted.

The Horizon league bestowed the honor upon six athletes from the men's outdoor track and field team including Neto Alexander, Chris Stanley, Lee Foss, Danny Smith, Jonathan White and Rich Daubert.

The women's tennis team and the baseball team each tied with three selections apiece. Among the selections for the women's tennis team are: Nicole Derouin, Jacki Farr and Kim Harris joined along with baseball's Weber Bowen, Mike Bruszer and John Rosner.

Debbie Lang was the lone selection for the women's track and field team while Nick Bodmer made the men's tennis squad.

The Horizon League Academic All-League team honors student-athletes who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or above with at least three complete semesters at the same institution and who participate in a Horizon League-sponsored sport as a starter or an important reserve. Selections are made by Horizon League Faculty Athletics Representatives and Sports Information Directors.

Detroit led all schools with 19 honorees, while Butler and UIC tied for second place with 14 recipients each.

Alexander, a Business Information and Decision Services major, captured the 200-meter title at the 2000 Outdoor League Championships with a time of 21.88.

Stanley, an Applied Psychology major, was a member of the league champion 4x400 relay team and placed third in the 800-meter run at the outdoor championships.

Foss, an English major, was selected to the Fall Academic All-League earlier in the season.

Daubert, an Engineering major, held the league's fastest mark in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:45.82.

Smith, an English major, was a member of the league champion 4x400 outdoor relay team.

White, an Accounting major, earned outdoor season bests in the 100-meter dash (9th, 11.73) and triple jump (5th, 43"7') at MCC Outdoor Championships.

Bowen, a Business major, led the team as well as the league with 24 doubles and 16 hit-by-pitches and was second for runs scored with 45.

Bruszer, an Earth and Environmental Sciences major, shared league Newcomer of the Year honors and earned a spot on the league All-Newcomer Team.

Rosner, a Teaching of History major, tallied 23 multiple-hit outings and 10 multiple-RBI contests while his 72 total hits were eighth most in the league.

Derouin, a Business major, was selected to the All-League team as she recorded 22 wins in singles action and 19 wins in doubles play.

Farr, a Marketing/Management major, was the 2001 Cecil N. Coleman Medal of Honor winner, which recognizes the Horizon League's to senior female student-athlete.

Harris, an Engineering major, was named the 2001 UIC Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year.

Lang, a Political Science major, placed seventh in the high jump at the outdoor league track championships.

Bodmer, a Pre-Medicine major, was selected to the All-League team for the second straight year as he compiled a record of 17-16 in singles action.
