Aug. 24, 2000
Effective September 1, 2000, the UIC men's gymnastics team will become official members of the Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League run under the guidance of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
"CJ" Johnson's squad has competed as an unofficial member the past two seasons, participating at the ECAC Championships while being unable to earn the automatic bid to the regional championships by winning the meet.
The Flames join UMass-Amherst, MIT, Springfield, Syracuse, Tempe, Army, Navy, Vermont, William and Mary and James Madison in the now 11-team league.
UIC will battle Temple, Navy, Springfield, William and Mary and James Madison during the 2001 regular season and will then compete as a first-time scoring member at the ECAC Championships March 24 and 25 in Williamsburg, Virginia.
