MVP Program Helps Educate UIC's Student-Athletes

Nov. 1, 2002

UIC Athletics believes that the commitment we must make to our student-athletes and their parents is three-fold:

1. Quality Athletics 2. Academic Excellence 3. Social Education

In keeping with that third platform, UIC Athletics brought to campus on Wednesday, October 30th, the nationally-recognized MVP (Mentoring Violence Prevention) Program headed by Jeff O'Brien.

The MVP leaders conducted three 90-minute sessions with our freshman and sophomore student-athletes and also met with all of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee members. The seminars involved educating our athletes on topics of gender violence and sexual awareness, by having them role-play scenarios that impact the behavior of young people.

Various units of campus affairs also attended the seminars.

UIC Athletics belongs to the WCAA Champs Life Skills Program and the MVP program is endorsed by the NCAA.
