Eric Phillips was named the Associate Athletic Director for Communications in June 2015 after serving as the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations since 2008. Previously, Phillips was an Assistant Athletic Director from 2004 until 2008.

As the Associate Athletic Director, Phillips assisted in the overall operation of the athletic department, including spearheading the UIC "Military Moment" at home athletic events, directing the travel coordination and logistic support for the Flames athletic teams, supervising daily operations of softball, soccer, and swimming, and coordinating postseason conference tournaments.

In addition, Phillips assisted with athletic business office operational activities and monitored/maintained AR records for the athletic facility and sponsorship rentals. He also served on the NCAA Third Cycle Re-Certification Committee and the Student Affairs Staff Development Committee.

As the Assistant Athletic Director, Phillips maintained organized functional operation of all financial accounting tractions within the athletic department, monitored fiscal status and accruals while providing information and advice relative to resource allocation and fiscal planning, reconciled budgets of 18 sport teams, produced and distributed financial forms and voucher, and served as sports liaison for multiple UIC teams.

Before joining the Flames Athletic Staff, Phillips served as the Coordinator of Media Relations for the Chicago White Sox between 1998 and 2004. With the White Sox, he coordinated player/coaching staff interview requests on local and national levels, served as team representative on road trips, researched and produced daily game notes and statistical data, supervised the daily operation of interns, and served as the assistant editor of the White Sox Media Guide and year-end publications. Phillips also assisted with daily/season credential requests, assisted Major League Baseball with the 2001 ALDS Playoffs (Oakland A's vs. NY Yankees), and volunteered during the Chicago White Sox 2005 AL Playoffs and World Series run where he served as the media press box liaison between media members from all over the world.

While earning his Masters of Science, Sport Administration at UIC, Phillips served as lead assistant coach for the Flames Women's Basketball team from 1991-1995. He coached, scouted and recruited prospective student athletes, arranged team travel, practice and game schedules, and monitored student-athletes' educational progress.

Phillips interned with WVAZ-FM, WSCR-AM, and WMAQ-AM radio stations in Chicago and WLDS Radio in Jacksonville, and also with ESPN in Bristol.

Phillips graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago with a Master of Science in Sport Administration in May 1993, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Communications in May 1989 from UIC.
