UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis appointed Dr. Ulf Bronas (BRO-NUS), Associate Professor in the College of Nursing, as UIC's new Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) effective April 27, 2020.

Dr. Bronas began teaching at UIC in Fall 2015 and currently has oversight of the cardiometabolic research group and his own laboratory. He is a member of the departmental advisory board and the faculty executive committee that advises the Dean and department Chair in all matters pertaining to the College of Nursing.  He recently received the Berger excellence in teaching award and has served as a faculty advisor to several student organizations.

An elite junior ice hockey player in his native Sweden, Dr. Bronas is also a Certified Athletic Trainer and has worked in sports medicine units across NCAA Divisions I, II and III.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine & Human Biology at St. Cloud State University, his Master's in Exercise & Applied Physiology at the University of North Dakota, and his Ph.D. in Exercise & Applied Physiology at the University of Minnesota. He is also the proud parent of a Division I student-athlete.

The FAR position is central to the NCAA governance structure and plays an important and strategic role to help promote academic integrity of intercollegiate athletics, support institutional control of intercollegiate athletics, and facilitate interaction of athletics and academics to enhance the student-athlete experience. The FAR chairs the Chancellor’s Athletic Advisory Council (CAAC) and the Financial Aid Appeals Committee, and will represent UIC at Missouri Valley Conference meetings and on various committees.
