Buchmiller joins the Flames after spending nearly three years at the University of Illinois. In her student-athlete development role, Buchmiller aided in the development of a new mission statement, vision statement and brand for the Illini, helped host and develop the Academic Achievement Award Dinner and aided in the development and implementation of the Sophomore-Senior Leadership Institute for more than 80 student-athletes.
As an Academic Advisor for the Illini, Buchmiller connected students with various resources through campus, alumni and employers and contributed to the development of academic skills, transferable life skills, and holistic growth of each individual student-athlete. Buchmiller also created study hall structure, met with recruits, monitored academic progress, supervised the department’s interns and served as a coordinator of staff events for the department.
Prior to her time in Champaign, Buchmiller spent three years in various roles at Indiana University, serving as the Assistant Academic Advisor and Interim Assistant Director of Football Academics before taking on academic advising responsibilities for the men’s and women’s cross country/track & field programs. During her time with the Hoosier’s football program, Buchmiller planned and developed student-athletes academic schedules, coordinated, designed, and executed a class-checking program and produced weekly progress reports, projected grades, tutoring, and attendance reports.
Buchmiller also helped host and develop various departmental events, created team specific workshops, implemented transitional programming for the department’s 500-plus student-athletes, executed mandatory Freshmen Excellence programming and oversaw student-athlete interest groups during her time in Bloomington.
Buchmiller got her start in student-athlete academic services as an Athletic Academic Services Intern at Eastern Illinois, where she assisted with academic advising, monitored academic performance, and supervised study hall, while also serving as a graduate assistant and assistant coach for the women’s rugby team.
Buchmiller received her Bachelor of Science and Educational Professional Studies from Eastern Illinois in 2012 and went on to receive her Master’s of Science in Sports Administration from Eastern Illinois in 2014.
