AS A FRESHMAN (2019): Completed the all-around in each of the season's first two meets...eliminated pommel horse and vault from his lineup after that, focusing on the remaining four events...had a season high on floor (13.150) against Minnesota and Nebraska, capping a fourth straight meet-over-meet increase on floor...scored 12.550 on rings in back-to-back appearances against William & Mary and Michigan...finished the season strong with his best score on parallel bars at Michigan...set his season best on high bar at the Windy City Invitational...competed on floor, rings, and parallel bars at the ECAC Championships...finished eighth in the conference on parallel bars.

PREP/PERSONAL: Was national champion on the parallel bars in 2018...national silver medalist on the rings (2013) and floor (2014)...fifth in the all-around in 2017...favorite event is parallel bars...enrolled in the UIC Honors College...majoring in biochemistry...son of Jim and Shannon Smiley.
