Email Coach Loeffler
Tim Loeffler was hired as UIC's head men's and women's swim coach on June 3, 2014.
The 2020-21 season one was a historic one for UIC's women's squad, which finished second at the Horizon League Championships. It was their best finish in program history. Lilly Culp won the conference title in the 200 fly for the second straight year, and Poleena Kovalaske broke the program record in the 50 free.
In 2020, Loeffler saw two of his men's swimmers claim individual Horizon League championships. Three individuals and one relay team broke the school records in their events.
The 2019 Horizon League Championships saw three Flames claim individual swimming titles. Loeffler also guided four individuals and one relay team to UIC program records. In 2018, four individuals won conference championships and four more program records were broken. Additionally, five swimmers qualified for the US Open Championships in 2019, where one (Michael Tegeler - 200 back) qualified for finals.
Loeffler guided the Flames to third place finishes in the Horizon League Championships on both the men's and women's sides in 2017, earning Horizon League Coach of the Year honors.  It was the highest finish in women's program history, and the best finish for the men in nearly a decade.  Under Loeffler's tutelage, four program records fell that season.  Brianna Hines set school marks in the 500 free and 400 IM, while Lexie Joy swam a program-best time in the 200 free and Michael Tegeler set a new standard in the 200 back.
In his first season at the helm, he guided two swimmers to program records in three events. Brianna Hines swam the 1650 free in 16:42.62, and finished the 500 free in 4:50.67, both at the Horizon League Championships, to put her name in the record books. Danel Voorhees took two tenths off the 100 yard butterfly standard, finishing in :55.20. Hines was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year as she helped lead the Flames to a fourth place finish. The men's team finished fifth at the conference meet.
Loeffler continued to get top-level performances out of his swimmers in his second year as program records continued to fall. Hines set the UIC records in the 1000 free and 400 IM, and bested her own school marks in the 500 and 1650 free. Lexie Joy broke the 200 IM record.
Before arriving at UIC, Loeffler spent the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach at Army where he helped the men's team claim runner-up honors in the Patriot League Championships. Prior to his time at West Point, Loeffler served four years as the assistant coach at Michigan State where he worked primarily with the middle distance and distance freestyle swimmers. Loeffler also gained valuable experience as the Spartan's lead recruiter and director of summer camps.
While in East Lansing, Loeffler helped the Spartans achieve tremendous success in the pool, guiding several athletes to the NCAA Championships. In the winter of 2013, he helped MSU's men's team place fourth at the U.S. Nationals.
Loeffler was a two-year letterwinner for Minnesota and was a member of its 2005 and 2007 Big Ten Championship squads. He holds numerous top-20 times for the Golden Gophers in the 1,000 and 1,650 free along with the 200 butterfly. He graduated from Minnesota in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Strategic and Analytical Communications. The Elmhurst, Ill., native also served two years as a student assistant for Minnesota from 2007-09.
