Biography

2023-24 (Senior): 
  • Competed in 19 matches for the Flames, at the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles positions and the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles spots.
  • Went 12-7 in singles action and 12-5 in doubles competition.
  • Led UIC with 12 doubles victories while his 12 singles victories were the second-most on the team. 
  • Went 11-1 at the No. 3 doubles position in 2024 and recorded a perfect 10-0 record when paired with Robinson Le Meur at No. 3 doubles. 
  • Won nine of his 12 singles matches at the No. 2 singles position. Went 3-0 at the No. 3 singles spot in 2024.
  • Named MAC Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week on Feb. 20. 
2022-23 (Junior):
  • Recognized as the 2023 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year.
  • Named to Southland's All-Conference First Team.
  • Southland Conference Player of the Week (April 18).
  • Ranked 69th in the nation by ITA in preseason singles, making him the first UIC men's tennis player to appear in the national rankings.
  • First and/or second position at singles, second and/or third singles position for doubles.
  • Beat No. 13 Northwestern Trice Pickens and Simen Bratholm in doubles (Feb. 26).
  • 53% overall win percentage on the season in singles, 55% in doubles.
  • First Flame to be recognized by the Southland Conference, as it's UIC's first season as a member.
  • Finished the season on a nine-match win streak.
  • Went undefeated in conference play.
Prior to UIC:
  • Played three seasons at Arkansas (2019-2022).
  • Ranked as high as 27th in the collegiate singles rankings and ranked fourth regionally at the end of his junior season.
  • Advanced to the singles final at ITA Regionals and qualified for the ITA National Championships as a junior, where he won his first match.
  • Went 20-11 overall on the singles courts the 2021-22 season, with six wins against SEC opponents. 
  • Named the SEC Newcomer of the Week on Apr. 7 during the 2020-21 season after clinching Arkansas’ upset of No. 3 Tennessee, downing Luca Wiedenmann who brought into the match a 27-2 overall record and a 17-1 dual season.
  • Downed No. 116 Noah Schacter of Texas A&M (Mar. 14) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 his sophomore year.
  • Finished the season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Max Freeman of Vanderbilt as a sophomore in the first round of the SEC Tournament.
  • In his first appearance as a Razorback, Bucan picked up a win against Yaswanth Mylavarapu of Omaha in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
High School / Personal:
  • U18 national champions with TC. Palmengarten in 2017.
  • National champion in 2013-18 with TK Crvena Zvezda.
  • Ranked No. 1 in Serbia at the U14, U16 and U18 level.
  • Majoring in Criminal, Law & Justice.
