Biography

Roy Mwale is starting his second year as an assistant sprint coach at UIC. He focuses on the short and long sprints as well as the relays.

Mwale is a former sprinter for UIC from 2010-2013. He specialized in the long sprints and relays (200m, 400m, 4x100m, & 4x400m) but also competed in the long jump and decathlon.

During Mwale's freshman year, UIC placed first at the 2010 Horizon League Outdoor Championship. He was a member of the 4x100m that won the conference title that year. As a sophomore, he transitioned into a decathlete for the outdoor conference championships and placed fifth in the event.

After taking his junior year off, Mwale returned for the 2012-13 season as a team captain. Mwale had a successful campaign as he placed fourth in the 400m at the indoor championships while also helping the 4x100m squad break the program record. Mwale received the Male MVP Award following his senior season.

Mwale graduated from UIC with a bachelor of science in Architecture and works at an architectural firm in Chicago.
