Dominic Sciturro

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Dominic Sciturro enters his second season in 2027 as a member on head coach Sean McDermott's staff, serving as an Assistant Coach with a focus on the outfield, hitting and baserunning.

In addition to his on-field coaching responsibilities, Sciturro will handle the UIC Baseball travel detailing while executing a warm Flames’ welcome for opponents to the best backdrop in college baseball, featured at Curtis Granderson Stadium, while helping to administer program culture through team-building concepts.

Sciturro was an integral part of the Flames’ run to the 2026 MVC regular-season and conference championships, helping lead the program to its seventh NCAA Regionals appearance. In his second season at UIC, he guided the Flames to break a 41-year program record for team home runs, finishing the year with 74. Sciturro also played a key role in five position players earning postseason honors, including two selections to the MVC All-Tournament Team.

He worked closely with MVC Newcomer of the Year and All-MVC First Team selection Ashton Kampa, who ranked second in the conference in batting average (.366) and home runs (18). Johnson also worked with catcher Thomas Curry, who delivered a standout performance in the conference tournament—batting .462 with six hits, two home runs and seven RBI across three games—to earn Most Outstanding Player.

Working exclusively with the outfielders, Sciturro worked extensively with utility player Vidal Colon and outfielder Lucas Smith, both of whom appeared on ESPN’s #SCTop10 multiple times throughout the season. Colon was widely praised for his defensive play in the outfield, earning a share of the MVC Defensive Player of the Year award and a spot on the All-Defensive Team.

Sciturro comes by way of NCAA DII Midwest Region power Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, where he served on Ryan Kelley’s staff for 3 seasons.

Over the course of his three seasons, Sciturro helped the Warriors win their first GLIAC title since 2010 and secure two GLIAC Tournament title game appearances. The 2023 edition of those title game appearances featured a championship crowning victory to secure a bid to the NCAA tournament.

During his time at Wayne State, the Warriors saw 5 players sign professional baseball contracts while setting a program record for wins (42) in 2023. The group of professional-turned players boasted 2023 GLIAC Player of the Year (OF) Rudy Ramirez and 2024 Boston Red Sox draftee (P) Griffin Kilander.

Upon arriving at Wayne State, Sciturro’s responsibilities included day-to-day program operations and baseball technology oversight. Sciturro developed a Microsoft Excel workbook that renovated how the program kept and tracked team-charted data.

This led to his appointment to oversee the student manager program that expanded under his direction. In addition to developing analytical code and organizing team data, Sciturro worked with Rapsodo technology, 6-4-3 Charts, A.I., and statistics to develop scouting reports he would present to Head Coach Ryan Kelley, influencing gameday decisions.

Beyond leading in the operations and development aspects of his role, Dominic Sciturro aided Associate Head Coach Aaron Hepner with the Warrior offense. Across his 3 seasons with the program, Sciturro manned the 1st Base coach's box. Defensively, Sciturro became responsible for the outfielder group in 2024, which produced GLIAC Freshman Player of the Year Drew Hill.

Sciturro also served as an Academic Learning Specialist in the Wayne State Department of Athletics. Sciturro worked on the team that provided academic oversight for the Warrior football program during the Fall 2023 semester. The Fall 2023 term marked the first semester since Winter 2021 that the team achieved a GPA of 3.0+. Of the 44 players named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (term GPA of 3.5+), Sciturro was responsible for 12 of them. Meanwhile, he also oversaw nine of the 26 players who achieved the Coach’s Honor Roll (term GPA of 3.0-3.49).

Sciturro graduated from Wayne State with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management with a Business Administration minor. In December 2025, Dominic Sciturro earned his Master of Arts in Sport Administration, marking the end of his tenure at Wayne State.

The 2025 Northwoods League season saw Sciturro stationed with the La Crosse Loggers as the Hitting and 3rd Base Coach. In an August 14th interview with ESPN La Crosse, host Aaron Morse stated, "You could probably argue that it was their [La Crosse Loggers] best offensive season ever". This suggestion would be supported by the Loggers' breaking of 4-season total offensive franchise records while placing top 5 all-time in 7 other categories. Under Sciturro’s direction, the Logger offense set team records for runs scored and stolen bases. The Loggers finished 3rd amongst all Northwood’s League teams in stolen bases with the 4th best success rate. No team had more stolen bases with a higher success rate than the Loggers, a testament to their baserunning efficiency. Sciturro also piloted the offense to the second-highest team batting average (.276) in franchise history. The offense tallied a team record in hit by pitch (104), good for 1st in team history, and representative of the tough style of play Sciturro influenced. The Loggers also secured the First Half Great Plains East championship and a Northwoods League playoff berth.

Prior to his stops at Wayne State and La Crosse, Sciturro served as a Baseball Operations Intern with the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL) and eventually volunteer coached with the league. The USPBL provided Sciturro with experience working with professional players, relaying information from baseball technology and film, while also throwing them BP and hitting fungos.

In addition to his experience with the USPBL, Dominic Sciturro also served as a hitting instructor for John Musachio’s Moose Athletics and Devan Ahart’s Hitting 2.0.

Born in Detroit to Jamie and Leslie Sciturro, Dominic Sciturro looks to bring Midwestern values of hard work, determination, and enthusiasm to the heart of Chicago.
