Jorge Martinez Romo

Jorge Martinez Romo joined the UIC athletics team as director of athletics human resources in July 2025, continuing a successful two-decade partnership with the UIC community that began as a student at the University and has continued as a vital contributor in the human resources field with a number of campus units. In his role with UIC athletics, Martinez Romo is charged with coordinating all human resource transactions, providing expertise on University policies and issue resolution, answering policy and procedure-related questions and advising managers and supervisors on the appropriate course of action. He also helps to facilitate searches and hiring, investigations, employee performance issues and discipline meetings and serve as a liaison to other campus human resources units.

Prior to assuming his current position with UIC athletics, Martinez Romo most recently served as human resources associate in UIC's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, managing HR operations for multiple departments since March 2016. He also held a role as human resources representative in the UIC Student Employment Office from 2011-16. 

Martinez Romo is a 2010 graduate of UIC, earning his bachelor’s degree in political science and Latin American & Latino Studies, and later returned to his alma mater to complete a master’s degree in urban higher education (M.Ed.) in 2024.
