Matt Crenshaw

Matt Crenshaw enters his first year on Ashleen Bracey’s coaching staff, being named an Associate Head Coach on June 9, 2026.

Crenshaw arrives at UIC with nearly two decades of coaching experience, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Delaware State during the 2025-26 season.

During his lone season with the Hornets, Crenshaw helped develop freshmen Amya Scott and Liliana Harrison, who were both named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team.

The Charlottesville, Va. native has spent most of his coaching career at his alma mater Iu Indy (formerly IUPUI). He served as an assistant coach (2006-11), an associate head coach (2011-18) and later return to become the head coach (2021-24) of the men’s basketball team.

During his tenure with the Jaguars, Crenshaw played a key role in IU Indy’s 26-7 season in 2007-08 and helped develop George Hill, the program’s only NBA draft pick. He also helped guide the Jaguars to their first postseason tournament victory in the 2010 College Basketball Invitational.

In his time at IU Indy, Crenshaw coached 15 all-league selections, multiple all-district honorees, three Mid-Major All-Americans and a College Sports Communicators Academic All-American.

Between his stints in Indianapolis, Crenshaw spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Ball State from 2018-21.

In the 2019-20 season, he played a key role in Ball State’s MAC West Division championship, the development of MAC Freshman of the Year Jarron Coleman, and the program’s top scoring defense in the Mid-American Conference. He also played a key role in the development of Tayler Persons, Ishmael El-Amin and K.J. Walton during his tenure.

During his playing career at IU Indy from 2000-04, Crenshaw established himself as one of the most accomplished players in program history. He hit the game-winning shot to secure the program’s only Mid-Continent Conference championship and clinch a berth in the 2003 NCAA Tournament.

Crenshaw’s No. 21 is one of only three jerseys retired by the program, and he remains the Jaguars’ all-time leader in career assists with 510.
