Four First-Half Goals by Drake Plague Flames

UIC takes first loss of season

CHICAGO – The UIC women's soccer team (0-1-2) suffered its first loss of the season Friday night as it came up empty handed in a 4-0 loss to Drake (2-0-0) at Flames Field.

The Flames were limited to seven shots from Olivia Everin (2), Rebeca Pallo (2), Jennfier Novak, Cecilia Magos and Kendall Wilde, with Everin garnering the lone shot on goal. The Bulldogs tallied 12 attempts on the night and had eight reach target.

Annie DiCanio started the game and played the first half, making three saves. Tara Khayam entered for the second half and made one stop.

Drake possessed the game at the start, generating seven shots before UIC could even get an attempt. After putting two of their first four shots on goal, the Bulldogs scored their first goal in the 19th minute from Kayla Armstrong. They added to their total with goals by Alyssa Brand in the 28th minute and another from Armstrong 2:26 later.

Novak took the Flames' first shot of the game in the 29th minute and sent it high on an attempt from distance. Everin fired off another near chance in the 35th minute but it curved above the crossbar.

The scoring sequence for Drake was capped in the 40th minute, when Alex Freeman broke down the field to make it 4-0.

The second half was a battle in the midfield. The defense put a stop to the Bulldogs attack and prevented them from taking a shot through the first 15 minutes, while the UIC offense continued to fight for its chances.

Pallo had her first shot blocked in the 57th minute before Wilde followed seven minutes later with a strike of her own that was blocked, which set up Pallo for a chance that went high.

Back-to-back corner kicks in the 79th minute for the Flames kept possession in their favor and allowed Magos to get off an attempt that was blocked.

The last chance for UIC was in the final minute, as Drake committed a foul 30 yards out and Everin took the free kick that was stopped by the Bulldogs' keeper.

The Flames will close out their stint at home Sunday when they host New Mexico State at noon CT at Flames Field.
