CHICAGO (AP) - Tim Bryant scored 15 of his 26 points in the first half Tuesday night as Chicago State jumped out to an early lead over Illinois-Chicago and then held on for a 69-61 win.

The Cougars (2-3) led by as many as 17 points in the first half and 40-30 at halftime. Illinois-Chicago cut the lead to six points on two separate occasions over the final 20 minutes but could get no closer.

Bryant hit 12 of 16 shots from the field on his way to his team-high 26. Jermaine Hicks added 20 points for the Cougars.

Illinois-Chicago (3-4) was led by Maurice Brown with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jordan Kardos had 11 points and Joe Scott 9, all in the second half.
