Chicago, Ill. - Despite a valiant second-half comeback by UIC, Cleveland State held on for a 79-70 victory Saturday evening at the UIC Pavilion.
The Flames (6-11, 1-3 MCC),who by trailed by 16 points at the half and 20 points (72-52) with 8:39 remaining in the game, reeled off 13 straight points over the next five minutes to cut the Viking lead to seven (72-65) with 3:45 left.
That would be as close as UIC would get, though, as they were able to score just three points over the last 2:35 of the contest.
Kimberly Henry continued her strong offensive play for the Flames, dropping in a team-high 19 points. Melea Clark tallied 14 points and six assists, while Jaysie Chambers tabbed 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Mahogany Green led three Cleveland State (10-7, 2-3 MCC) players in double figures with a game-high 24 points. Audra Cook added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
UIC now has a week of before they travel to Green Bay, Wis., to battle the Phoenix on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 3:30 p.m.
