Box Score

Chicago, Ill. - Butler University used a 20-6 run over the final 5:40 of the first half to pace a 75-46 victory Thursday night at the UIC Pavilion.

Ball control was the key to the Bulldogs' (12-7, 4-2 MCC) success as they went the entire first half without a turnover and didn't commit their first miscue until midway though the second period.

"Our focus was really good tonight," Butler Head Coach Barry Collier said of his team's ability to hold on to the basketball. "It's a case of focus and mental toughness when you avoid (turning the ball over) on the road."

"There is no reason for them to turn the ball over with no one playing defense," said UIC Head Coach Jimmy Collins.

LaVall Jordan led four Butler players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. Mike Marshall scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Bulldogs, who won for just the second time on the road this season.

Maurice Brown led UIC with his fourth double-double of the season. The freshman finished the night with 12 points and 11 boards. Joe Scott was the other Flame in double figures, tallying 11 points while adding eight rebounds.

The Flames (6-15, 1-5 MCC), whose 46-point total set a UIC Pavilion record for fewest points in a game, actually took an early 8-1 lead in the contest and led 12-11 with 12:19 remaining in the first half. But the Bulldogs would put the game out of reach, outscoring UIC 32-12 the remainder of the period to take a 44-24 lead into intermission.

UIC will look to end its six-game losing streak on Saturday, Jan. 29, when they meet Wright State at the UIC Pavilion at 8:00 p.m. The game will be televised locally on Fox Sports Net and can be heard on radio on the home for the Flames, ESPN Radio 1000 AM.
