CHICAGO (AP) - Damion Stringer scored 31 points, including a three-pointer with 15 seconds left in the overtime period, to lead Cleveland State to a 91-89 Midwestern Collegiate Conference victory over Illinois-Chicago on Saturday.
Cleveland State (7-7, 2-0 MCC), led from the start and held a 37-30 halftime lead after having led by as many as 12 points.
The Flames (6-10 1-1), came back in the second half and led by as many as eight points. But the Vikings in turn rallied and tied the score at 75 on a layup by Sonny Johnson with 1:13 left in regulation. Neither team was able to score again before the buzzer.
Stringer's shot in overtime broke an 87-87 tie. Stringer made one free throw and Maurice Brown hit a basket for the Flames with three seconds left but they could not get the ball again.
James Madison added 25 points for the Vikings and Johnson finished with 14.
Jon-Pierre Mitchom paced the Flames with 20 points, while Brown had 17 and Theandre Kimbrough had 12.
