Chicago, Ill. - The UIC soccer team had won 20 straight games at Flames Field dating back to 1997, but had that streak stopped by UW-Green Bay on October 6 as the Phoenix picked up a 2-0 win. Now, for the second time in five games, the Flames have been defeated at home again as Western Michigan pulled off the upset Sunday afternoon, winning 1-0.

UIC falls to 10-3-2 overall while the Broncos improve to 5-8-1. After playing three straight non-conference games, the Flames will now refocus on the Midwestern Collegiate Conference race as they prepare to battle crosstown rival, Loyola, on Thursday, October 19, on the Ramblers' home turf.

On Friday, while celebrating a 2-1 win over Northwestern, UIC also moved back into second place in the MCC standings with its 3-1-1 mark as Detroit stunned UW-Green Bay, 1-0, to drop the Phoenix to 3-2 and into third place in league play.

Sunday afternoon, Western Michigan made the most of its few scoring opportunities as it found the back of the net on its first shot of the game. Scott Duhl was the benefactor of a nice back pass from Trevor Garrison as he fired the ball across the box, past UIC goalie Chris Jamal and into the right corner of the net.

The Flames, playing without leading scorer Eric Lukin, who was forced to sit out after picking up his fifth yellow card of the year on Friday against Northwestern, dominated offensively as they outshot the Broncos 21-4, but just couldn't finish. Sophomores Bruno Rasich and Jakob Stasko, who led UIC with four shots, each missed a wide open net in the second half. Despite 21 total team shots, the Flames managed to put just four on goal.

"We had a lot of scoring opportunities, but just couldn't finish," Head Coach Sasha Begovic said. "This game was very similar to the Wisconsin-Green Bay game when we dominated and kept the pressure on throughout most of the second half, but couldn't finish on our scoring chances."
