Box Score

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UIC Flames rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out a 5-2 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock earlier this afternoon in their season opener.

Arkansas-Little Rock (2-2) took an early lead as it scored once in the bottom of the second, but UIC responded with a run of its own in the top of the sixth. The Flames then went ahead in the top of the eighth as J.P. Moran led off the inning with a double, advanced to third on a ground out by John Rosner and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Sean McNichols.

The Trojans, however, came right back in the bottom half of the eighth with a run of their own to knot the ballgame at 2-2.

In the ninth, Bob Rosinski started the UIC rally as he drew a walk and then stole second base. Eric Duke made it runners on first and second as he was hit by a pitch and then Weber Bowen sacrificed the runners to second and third with just one out.

Jason Hughes then stepped to the plate and promptly roped the ball to right field, driving in two runs for a 4-2 UIC lead. Andy Deahl added an insurance score for the Flames as he sacrificed Doug Vetter in for one more run and a 5-2 lead.

Nick Worm, who struck out three batters in five and two-third innings of work, stopped the Trojans in the bottom of the ninth for his first victory of the young 2000 season.

UIC and Arkansas-Little Rock will meet up tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Little Rock.
