Normal, Ill. - The UIC women's gymnastics team lost to downstate rival Illinois State Saturday evening by a score of 192.475-190.925.

The Flames were led by senior Gabriella Brunn, who took three first-place finishes. She scored a 9.850 to take first on the floor exercise while her score of 9.825 was good enough to win on the vault. Her third first-place finish came on the balance beam, where she tied with teammate Amy August with a score of 9.750.

August also turned in a solid performance on the uneven bars and on the vault. She placed third on both events with a 9.725 on the bars and a 9.675 on the vault. Finishing just behind her on the vault was teammate Cheryl Rubinger, who placed fifth with a 9.650.

Kim Ball helped out the Flames on the uneven bars with a 9.750 and a second-place finish on the uneven bars.

Heather Mohler led the way for the Redbirds, placing first in all-around competition with a score of 38.675. Illinois State was also helped out by season best team scores of 48.400 on bars and 48.550 on floor exercise.

UIC returns home on Friday, Feb. 25, for a 7:00 p.m. meet against Southeast Missouri State at the Physical Education Building.
