Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago forward Joe Scott (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) will most likely miss the remainder of the 2001-02 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Flames' season-opening victory over Indiana State on Sunday night.
Scott, a junior, underwent an MRI on Monday afternoon, which revealed the tear, but also showed no other structural damage to the knee. He will have surgery to repair the ACL and undergo a normal rehabilitation process.
The injury occurred just 90 seconds into the game when Scott's knee buckled as he went up to dunk the ball on a two-on-one break.
The Palos Hills, Ill., native entered this season as UIC's top returning scorer and rebounder after averaging 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore.
The Flames' season continues on Wednesday, Nov. 21, as they take on St. Joseph's (Ind.) at 7:00 p.m., at the UIC Pavilion.
